The New Westminster school district is seeking public input on ways to cut back on spending to offset a $2.2-million projected deficit for this school year.

The New Westminster school district is seeking public input on ways to cut back on spending to offset a $2.2-million projected deficit for this school year.

The district posted an online survey on its website for the public to weigh in on the situation. The deadline to respond to the survey is tomorrow, Jan. 17.

This year's projected shortfall isn't the only budget bad news for the district. It also has a $2.8million surprise deficit from last year to make up for.

The district plans to ask the Ministry of Education if it can pay back last year's deficit over the course of five years.

By law, school districts are required to pass balanced budgets.
