Royal City residents will still be able to tune in to city council meetings live on Shaw Cable.

In August, Shaw Cable informed the city that starting Oct. 15, it would no longer be broadcasting council meetings live from council chambers. The plan has been to broadcast the meetings on Shaw Cable the following Tuesday and Saturday.

Shaw Cable, however, has since informed the city that it will continue to offer live broadcasts of council meetings.

Lindsay Krzepkowski, manager of media relations for Shaw Communications Inc., confirmed the company would continue to provide live broadcasts of New Westminster and Burnaby city council.

"Our local Shaw TV teams are completely committed to working with the municipalities and we'll be continuing to find broadcast times that work for them," she said in an email statement. "Local programming is part of our mandate to the community and Shaw TV regularly broadcasts meetings from 19 different municipalities throughout the Lower Mainland, along with three school boards. In addition to Shaw TV, most municipalities live stream their council meetings so there are options for Shaw TV viewers."

Blair Fryer, the city's communications manager, said residents can view council meetings live on Monday's via the city's website at www.newwestcity.ca or at their convenience through the archives.
