We've got a mixed bag for you to enjoy this weekend, including some artsy events, a farmers market and a parenting workshop. We're continuing with our popular feature, The Record's Top Five (or More) Things to Do This Weekend and offer the following suggestions for the April 5 to 7 weekend.

1 See the springtime offerings at the Royal City Farmers Market, which takes place on Saturday, April 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at River Market, 810 Quayside Dr. Still in its winter location before moving to Tipperary Park in June, the market features some of its summer vendors as well as new offerings. Artisans can be found upstairs in the market, while food vendors will be located downstairs and on the patio.

2 Connect with other parents of children with special needs at the Special Education Parent Network Day that's being held on Saturday, April 6 from 8: 45 a.m. to 4 p.m. at F.W. Howay Elementary School, 91 Courtney Cres. Organized by the New Westminster District Advisory Council and the British Columbia Confederation of Parent Advisory Council, the event will give parents a chance to find support and information on topics such as sexuality, independent education plans, advocacy and anxiety. Tickets are $20 and include lunch. For more information, visit www.specialedparentnet work.myevent.com.

3 Enjoy a variety showcase of local seniors and youth who have been involved in the Heart 2 Art intergenerational art based project. Participants will be showcasing talents such as bebop, interpretive dance, belly dance, toe tapping music and song - and some funny interpretations of song. The variety show takes place on Sunday, April 7 from 2 to 3: 30 p.m. at Century House, 620 Eighth St. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call Century House at 604519-1066.

4 Attend a book launch at this weekend's Poetic Justice event. Join editor Penn Kemp and featured guests for readings and a discussion to launch the book, Jack Layton: Art in Action. Edited by Kemp, the book is a collection of anecdotes, interviews and reflections about Layton and his influence, including his love of arts and culture. Hosted by Mickey Bickerstaff, the April 7 Poetic Justice gathering takes place at the Heritage Grill Backroom (447 Columbia St.) from 3 to 5 p.m. Kemp, who edited the book and is a life member of the League of Canadian Poets, will be joined by Heidi Greco, Franci Louann and Susan McCaslin.

5 Check out Holodomar - Murder By Starvation, a play to mark the 80th anniversary of the famine imposed on the Ukrainian people in 1932-33 by Stalin's regime. The play will be performed by Edward Evanko and presented by the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League of New Westminster.

Showtime is 2 p.m. on Saturday at the theatre of the Justice Institute of British Columbia, 715 McBride Boulevard. Tickets are $20 for adults, $8 for ages 13 to 19, and children get in free. To reserve, call 604-944-1971.
