A three-year project is helping to add some colour to Queensborough.

The Queensborough Special Programs Committee started the Youth Art Initiative to create a legacy art project for the community.

Two classes from Queensborough Middle School and some students from Purpose School participated in the project and painted scenes on four-by-eight foot panels.

"I think they add much-needed colour," said Lisa Egan, who coordinated the project. "It shows the initiative that the kids can come up with."

The students worked with local artists to develop mural concepts and to create the artwork.

"We had about 10 sessions. It was done at the school," Egan said. "Because it was a Youth Art Initiative, they were part of the process right from the beginning."

The students came up with designs for the individual panels and worked together to ensure the themes on the panels would fit together once they were displayed.

"It went off very well," Egan said. "They worked from planning the panels to design the layout and actually painting."
