A team of 51 from the City of New Westminster took to the streets of Vancouver April 21 for the Sun Run and enjoyed an impressive result.

The team - known as the New Westminster Royals - placed second out of 36 teams in the government category.

Dave Creighton, chair the city's corporate wellness committee, noted that was just behind ICBC and just ahead of B.C. Hydro.

"The team score is based on the accumulation of the top 10 team members' placement (i.e. what place they come in crossing the finish line based on their gender). Way to go team," he wrote in an email to staff. "It was a great event with an amazing 48,196 participants.

Whether you run, jog or walk, we hope you join the team next year for the 30th anniversary edition of the Sun Run to be held on Sunday, April 27, 2014."

CANADA DAY

Community groups are invited to help the City of New Westminster celebrate Canada Day.

The city's Canada Day committee (a sub-committee of the arts and culture commission) is on the hunt for community groups that may be interested in setting up a display table at the Canada Day event in Queen's Park on July 1.

In order to take part, the group's display tables must include activities, give-aways, displays or information that relate to Canada, such as crafts or Canadian flags and tattoos.

Any groups interested in applying for a Canada Day table must contact Nikki at nlajeunesse@ newwestcity.ca or call 604525-7388 by June 7.
