Like to read? Here's a chance to do even more of it with a Kobo eReader. The New Westminster public library's summer reading program for adults is extending the deadline on a contest they've been running. A number of prizes, including a Kobo, are up for grabs.

Local readers simply have to tell the library their favourite books, and answer weekly trivia contests. Stop by the library or enter online at www.nwpl.ca

before Aug. 31. At the end of summer, the library will compile a list of the city's favourite books.

The library is located at 716 Sixth Ave. and is wheelchair-accessible. For more information, call 604-527-4660.

LANDSCAPE VIEWS

Take in some European landscapes without travelling from home. This month, European artist Peter Csizmar's exhibition, Landscapes, will be on display at the Gabor Gasztonyi Gallery.

The opening reception will be on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 3 p.m. and the exhibition will continue at the gallery until Sept. 30.

The artist will be in attendance at the gallery opening.

Csizmar was born in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany to Hungarian parents and grew up in Vojvodina, Yugoslavia.

"The natural beauty of Vojvodina has influenced my latest work. The textures, and earthy colors,

the flowers and the fields as well as the colors of the sky have inspired me to paint the landscapes of my youth," he said in a press release.

For more information, see www.gaborgasztonyi gallery.com.

The gallery is at 730 12th St. in New Westminster.

FEATURED ARTISTS

Two artists are being featured this month at the New Westminster Public Library until Aug. 30.

On the ramp, Peri- Laine Nilan is displaying pen and ink and watercolours that include street-scapes and nature themes. In the reference department, pieces by Teressa Bernard -acrylics that are a blend of abstract, realism and mixed media -are on display.

FOND FAREWELL

With our summer season (a. k.a. vacation season) coming to an end here at The Record, staff will be moving back into their regular beats -including our arts and entertainment reporter and assistant editor Julie MacLellan. MacLellan has spent most of the summer serving as acting editor, but she'll soon be back covering the city's art scene. As for me, I'll be moving into other coverage areas, so keep an eye out for me in the paper and online. www.twitter.com/ChristinaMyersA
