A local pharmacy recently earned a national award for its work.

West End Medicine Centre was given a 2012 Commitment to Care and Service Award in the area of Integrated Pharmacy Program for its work in ostomy care from Practice and Drugstore Canada at an awards ceremony in Toronto.

The awards were created to recognize, and reward, the many facets of pharmacy, including patient care, health promotion, disease management, business acumen and charitable work. West End Medicine Centre's Ostomy Care and Supply Centre started with a small ostomy section in 1985, according to a press update.

Today, the pharmacy cares for more than 3,000 patients.

"This is an excellent initiative on collaborating with nurses to create this amazing niche for your pharmacy. You are an inspiration to all pharmacy owners," the update quotes one of the judges as saying.
