New Westminster police are recommending charges against a man who was allegedly using a knife to break into vehicles in Sapperton.

Just after 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2, the New Westminster Police Department received a report of a man allegedly breaking into a vehicle on Hospital Street. The NWPD reports that when officers arrived the suspect could be seen inside the vehicle.

“We want to thank the citizen that called 9-1-1 to report this crime in progress,” police spokesperson Sgt. Sanjay Kumar said in a news release. “Residents are our eyes and ears, and when crimes are reported to us we can make arrests such as this one and dedicate additional resources to areas of the city which are seeing an increase in crime.”
