Feb. 13 was Richard Clement Moody's 200th birthday.
As colonel of the Columbia Detachment of Royal Engineers stationed in the colony of B.C., Moody became the founding father of the City of New Westminster.
Moody and the men of the corps worked from their camp in today's Sapperton area from 1859 to 1863 and their legacy still remains.
This new cemetery tour's unique format will introduce a number of citizens from the Royal City of 1859 to 1863, who very likely knew the colonel.
The tour will combine these early connections with the "Englishman in command" with possible dialogue and historical fictional discussions between the colonel and local citizens.
The tour will explore what might have been discussed, commented upon, or even reminisced about, as you meet former Royal City citizens who might have casually had "a chat with Colonel Moody."
The tour is being held on Sunday, April 28 starting at 1: 30 p.m.
This tour will start near the Fraser Cemetery office at 100 Richmond St. in New Westminster. The tour costs $10 per person (cash only).
Plan to come along for an entertaining walk filled with great stories.
The tour takes about 1.5 to two hours, goes rain or shine, and there is no need to pre-register.
