A New West man is in custody after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend early this morning.
According to Staff Sgt. Paul Hyland, patrol officers were called to the intersection of Churchill and Burnaby streets at about 4:20 a.m. on Aug. 8. When police arrived, a woman told the officers she had been assaulted by her boyfriend at a home in the 400 block of Cumberland Street.
Several hours later, officers arrested the suspect, a 32-year-old New Westminster man, at the home on Cumberland Street. He remains in custody at this time, according to Hyland.
“It is anticipated that investigators will be recommending a number of charges against this individual as a result of this incident,” Hyland wrote in an email to The Record.
The New Westminster Police Department is expected to announce charges on Monday once the suspect appears in court.
