The New Westminster Police Department is hoping this year’s Cops for Cancer Cup has something for everyone.

The event, which raises funds for New Westminster police officers riding in the annual Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast, is bringing a new group of athletes to its charity hockey game – Canucks alumni.

Unlike past years, which saw the game played on a Wednesday night, this year the annual game takes place on Friday, Mar. 14, and will see New Westminster police and Salmonbelllies take on the Vancouver Canucks alumni.

While the Canucks’ line-up has yet to be finalized, a number of former Canucks are expected to take to the ice at Queen’s Park, including Orland Kurtenbach, Dave Babych, Harold Snepts, Kirk McLean, Darcy Rota, Tony Tanti, Denis Pederson, Mark Lofthouse and Cliff Ronning, according to a media release from the department.

Former New Westminster Bruins’ coach and legend Ernie “Punch” McLean will return to Queen’s Park as an honorary coach and special guest.

“So come on out for a great night of family entertainment, cheer on your favourite team and support three very worthy causes,” the release stated.

All proceeds from the event go to the New Westminster Police Department’s Cops for Cancer fund, the Salmonbellies Alumni Scholarship fund and the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Foundation. There will also be a 50-50 draw, an outdoor barbeque and a silent auction for Canucks’ alumni merchandise.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the puck drops at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at Queen’s Park and Moody Park arenas. For more information visit www.nwpolice.org.
