The Canada Games flag recently passed through the Royal City on its cross-Canada adventure.

The flag is traveling across Canada and stopping in at past Canada Games locations in support of this year's games in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Canada Games Pool was part of the New Westminster/ Burnaby games back in 1973.

"It's the equivalent of the Torch Run that the Olympics do," said Hilary Knowles, the city's aquatics director, about the flag tour. "The Canada Games event that was hosted here in the city in 1973 was the fourth of the Canada Games run. There have been 18 after us."

After arriving by courier, the flag was unveiled as part of a poolside ceremony at Canada Games Pool that was attended by Knowles, Coun. Jaimie McEvoy and Dean Gibson, the city's director of parks, culture and recreation. The flag has visited New Westminster in past years and was hung in Canada Games Pool three years ago as part of its visit.
