Library elevator closed for repairs Anyone unable to use stairs should take note; the elevator at the local library will be closed for repairs beginning Saturday, Aug. 10.

The work is expected to take several weeks and at times will be very loud, according to a press release.

The auditorium will not be available while repairs are underway, which means any programs or events scheduled for that space will either be moved to another location or rescheduled for a later date. Services on the second floor will continue to be available, and for those who cannot manage the stairs, two computers with Internet connection will be available on the main floor.

Staff will also be on hand to retrieve any books, magazines or newspapers from the second floor, if needed. Anyone who needs assistance is encouraged to go to the information desk on the main floor. The library is located at 716 Sixth Ave. in New Westminster. For more information, visit www.nwpl.ca, call 604-527-4666 or email reference@nwpl. ca.

Aunt Leah's gets help from union Aunt Leah's Place is grateful for its recent donation of $1,000 from the Christian Labour Association of Canada.

Lionel Friess, a member of the Service, Health and Allied Workers Union Local 501, nominated Aunt Leah's for the donation. Christian Labour Association of Canada is an independent labour union that represents more than 55,000 workers in a range of sectors including construction, health care, retail, service, transportation and manufacturing. "Aunt Leah's provides safe, secure housing and programs that give young people the practical skills they need to make a successful transition to adulthood and independence," said Gale Stewart, the charity's executive director. "In addition, young moms are provided with housing and support in learning how to care for themselves and their babies. Aunt Leah's Place helps prevent children in foster care from becoming homeless, and mothers in need from losing custody of their children. With the provision of supported housing, job training and coaching on essential life skills, youth are supported on their journey to self-sufficiency."
