Donald William Berry passed away peacefully in White Rock on Aug. 20.

Born in Moose Jaw, Sask. on Dec. 11, 1928, Don was reunited with his beloved, devoted wife, Margaret. Don is survived by his sons, Rick (Tracy), Doug (Bernadette), Ken (Nicole), Dave (Eydie); sister, Francis Nelford; brother, Cam; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Phyllis Robinson, Jill and Alan Robinson; and grandchildren Heather, Kevin, Robyn, Spencer, Tara, Tyler, Tiffany, Quinn, Saxon, Matthew, Michelle, Elizabeth; and cherished relatives and friends.

Don was a charismatic, one-of-a-kind individual, who skated through life with a smile on his lips, a twinkle in his eyes, and always, two hands on the stick. As a hockey player, Don was a member of the 1954 Allan Cup and 1955 world championship-winning Penticton Vee's, where he distinguished himself as their premier penalty-killer. In recognition of these accomplishments, Don and his teammates were inducted into the B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame in 1994. Later, as a coach, Don was awarded the Ernie Gare Memorial Trophy as the 1982-83 B.C. Amateur Hockey Association coach of the year. He was also inducted into the Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.

A service and celebration of life will be held Aug. 31, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Victory Memorial Park, 14831-28 Ave, in Surrey. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to a charity of your choice.
