Some uptown residents had brown water coming out of their taps after a water main broke in New West on Wednesday.

A broken water main has left some uptown residents with murky water – or no water at all.

Ashleigh Young, a communications officer with the city, said there was a broken water main at Fifth Avenue and Ash Street this afternoon.

“Crews have now completed the repair and are currently flushing the water main, which can result in cloudy water,” she said in an email to the Record. “Residents just need to run their taps until the cloudy water disappears.”

The issue also impacted the New Westminster Public Library.

“We have no water! Until further notice, there is no water (washrooms, drinking  water or air conditioning) at the main branch. We’re working on it and will update when situation changes,” tweeted the library at 11:44 a.m. “All we can say is, luckily this didn’t happen on Monday!”
