Bremner nominated as Liberal candidate

Local candidate has lived in city for 10 years

Hector Bremner will represent the B.C. Liberals in New Westminster in the next provincial election.

Bremner received the party's official nomination as the B.C. Liberal candidate in New Westminster before a crowd of more than 150 supporters at Fraser River Discovery Centre on Aug. 18.

"New Westminster is a booming town that is filled with young families who are working hard to get ahead," he said in a press release. "These people want their government to maintain low taxes, controlled spending and economic stability."

Bremner said he is looking forward to talking about why the B.C. Liberals are the best party to manage British Columbia's economy and about how he plans to make jobs, the economy and continued improvements at Royal Columbian Hospital a key part of his campaign.

Surrey-Panorama MLA Stephanie Cadieux, minister of social development, introduced Bremner at the nomination meeting.

"This is the quality type of person that you're going to send to Victoria," she said. "This is the person who's going to stand up for you, for your family, for fiscal discipline and responsibility, for the right - the right - to have a good life, a prosperous life, in British Columbia."

One of Bremner's goals is to help the Liberals move forward with their plan to redevelop Royal Columbian Hospital.

Bremner, a small business owner, has lived in New Westminster with his wife Virginia for 10 years. They have two sons; Carlo, 15, and Gianluca, 14. Bremner has served in various volunteer positions in the community, including stints with the city's community and social issues committee, the Hyack Festival Association and the B.C. Seniors Services Society.

Bremner will be going against Judy Darcy, who will represent the NDP, and Paul Forseth, who will run for the B.C. Conservatives, in the provincial election scheduled for May 14, 2013.
