Police are crediting the quick action of a neighbour for stopping a theft at a bike shop in Sapperton Wednesday morning.

The caller contacted police around 12:45 a.m. on March 29 after they spotted a man breaking the front window of the Original Bike Shop on East Columbia Street. The witness gave officers a description of the suspect who was located a short distance away, according to a press release.

“Because of the diligence of the caller, and the quick response of our patrol officers, we were able to act quickly and arrest the suspect,” acting Sgt. Jeff Scott said in the release.

Nothing was stolen during the attempted theft.

The suspect was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
