Construction of new digital billboards is getting underway at two sties in New Westminster.
Last year, the City of New Westminster gave the green light to a new digital media program that includes the installation of four digital signs at four locations in the city.
The signs are expected to generate about $2 million annually for city coffers.
According to the city's website, crews will be on site at the Pattullo Bridge and Brunette Avenue sites for the next two weeks, where they will be preparing the foundation. The signs will be erected soon after.
Roger Emanuels, the city's manager of design and construction, said crews have started work at the Wood Street and South Dyke locations for access and site preparation. Real construction will get underway in about a week.
The City of New Westminster agreed to proceed with a "digital media program" that will see the installation of four digital signs located on the city's perimeter land and right-of-way sites.
The signs will be located at Highway 91A at the Queensborough Bridge, Highway 91 at the approach to the Alex Fraser Bridge, on Brunette Avenue at the Highway 1 East on-ramp and on McBride Boulevard at the south end of the Pattullo Bridge.
The City of New Westminster has signed a 20-year agreement with All Vision Canada, which will pay all costs associated with building, maintaining and marketing the digital signs.
All Vision will manage and maintain the digital sign program.
