A New Westminster woman believes the city's new billboards are the perfect place to find "forever homes" for animals.
Maureen Makowsky has asked city council to use the four new digital billboards in the city to promote the animals that are available for adoption at the New Westminster Animal Shelter.
By including a photo and a short biography of the animals, she believes the city could help move the cats and dogs into permanent homes.
Makowsky noted that the shelter currently advertises the animals that are available for adoption on the City of New Westminster's website.
"It's not enough. The shelter is overloaded," she told council Aug. 26. "I think we could do more and take advantage of that billboard."
The animal lover also suggested a title for the advertising campaign: Could you love me forever? "I think it's a cute name," she said. Coun. Jaimie McEvoy said it's a "great idea" and confirmed there has been a surge in the number of cats in the city's shelter.
Council referred the suggestion to staff.
Earlier this year, Allvision constructed four digital signs in New Westminster. The contract provides the city with an opportunity to advertise on the billboards.
