A number of community groups and businesses took a spin around the Royal City to support life-saving research.
The Heart and Stroke Big Bike made its annual appearance in New Westminster on May 7, giving community organizations, companies and groups a chance to support the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Teams of up to 29 riders committed to raise a mini-mum of $50 each, and pedal through the community in support of heart disease and stroke research.
Thornebridge Gardens, Canadian Auto Workers, Starlight Casino, Mainroad Contracting and the Ministry of Transportation participated in the ride that got underway at Sixth and Sixth.
According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Big Bike is a vital fundraiser and engages Canadians across the country. In 2012, more than 50,000 riders in over 200 communities helped raise $7.9 million for life-saving research.
"This is helping Canadians make health last in order to live longer, fuller lives," said a news release form the Heart and Stroke Foundation. At left, members of Starlight High Rollers get instruction on riding the big bike.
