This Saturday the New Westminster police are encouraging residents to drop off any unused or unwanted prescription drugs at the station as part of the National Prescription Drug Drop-Off Day.
Sponsored by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, the annual event is meant to raise awareness about the growing number of youth who are using prescription medicines for recreational purposes. This increase often leads to “addiction and unintended tragic consequences,” according to the chiefs’ association.
Residents are asked to gather all unwanted or unused prescription drugs and drop them off at the front counter at the New Westminster Police Department, 555 Columbia St., between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. on May 9.
Police are also reminding residents that unwanted or unused drugs can be dropped off at pharmacies throughout the year.
