Attention shoppers: James Crosty is the event organizer for Saturday's Boardwalk Festival and Sale in the Quay. This year, more than 200 vendors are expected.

More than 10,000 people are expected to stroll along the Quay this Saturday, as part of the eighth annual Boardwalk Festival and Sale.

"It's truly a unique shopping experience because there's literally something for everyone," said senior event organizer James Crosty. "We encourage bargaining at all costs."

The event, put on by the Quayside Community Board, will stretch across the equivalent of seven city blocks and will host upwards of 200 vendor booths, up 10 per cent from last year.

"The strangest thing we've ever had on sale was a condo and a car. The most unusual items have been stuffed animals that you can't buy anymore," said Crosty.

Treasure seekers can expect a few surprises, including a large pet zone featuring the "Hound Lounge," face painting and an array of live entertainment. "We'll have three stages and four bands playing. We're very excited about the 20-piece Royal Westminster Regiment Band that will be here."

When it comes to cleaning up after such a gathering, Crosty said the public has always been mindful about waste. "You could walk down there around five o'clock and you wouldn't even know it took place," he said. In the past, the board would take what was left over and donate it to charity. As the event grew in popularity, members realized it was just too much. This year, vendors are advised to pack out whatever they bring in.

In terms of cost, Crosty said the bill for this year's extravaganza will range anywhere between $10,000 and $15,000. Sponsors include The Record, Bosa Properties and Knowledge First Financial.

If you're planning to drive, the Pattullo Bridge will be closed Aug. 15 to 17. To park and walk, drive to River Market or the Front Street parkade off Columbia Street. If you're using the SkyTrain, get off at the New Westminster station at Eighth Street. Take the level crossing at Begbie Street or the overpass at Hyack Spirit Square to River Market and then walk west on the Esplanade.
