A 24-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder with a firearm after a shooting in the Glenbrook North neighbourhood more than a week ago.
Police responded to the shooting in the 200 block of Osborne Avenue on Sunday, Nov. 17 at around 7:30 p.m., but the suspect, now identified as Carlos Monteith, was able to flee the scene.
One adult woman was transported to hospital with injuries, police said, adding that New Westminster Police Department major crime and street crime investigators were able to identify and find the suspect.
The Vancouver Police Department’s emergency response team helped in the arrest of Monteith, who was then charged with several offences.
“NWPD Investigators worked around the clock through the weekend, and because of their commitment to public safety they were able to identify and arrest the suspect to bring him before the courts,” said acting Chief Const. Dave Jansen. “I am very proud of the dedication of our officers and of the teamwork with our partners at the Vancouver Police.”
Monteith is facing charges of attempted murder with a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent to wound, possessing a prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition and possessing a firearm while prohibited.
“A shooting in any community is disturbing, and we hope that the public is put at ease knowing that we invest significant resources into solving and preventing these types of offences,” said Sgt. Jeff Scott.
Monteith’s next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 2, Scott said.
