Two organizations in New West will be receiving $8,500 in grants as part of Metro Vancouver's Regional Cultural Project Grants.

The Arts Council of New Westminster has been awarded $3,500 from the latest round of funding, while the Massey Theatre Society will receive $5,000.

A total of 57 arts and culture organizations were awarded a total of $300,000, with the funding helping organizations research and produce new cultural programs, reach new audiences and cover project staff and administrative needs, with a maximum of $10,000 available per grant.

For the 2024 round of grants, more than 163 applications were submitted with more than $1.3 million in funding being sought for proposed projects.

“Metro Vancouver has a vibrant creative community, with diverse voices sharing a broad spectrum of experiences. Arts and culture programs help bring people together and strengthen our connections to each other,” Metro Vancouver Regional Culture Committee Chair Lisa Muri said in a news release.

“Through these annual grants, we are able to help ensure that the region’s creative minds continue to inspire and delight.”

More than one-quarter of 2024 grant recipients were new to the program.
