A Royal City hair salon has sustained damage after two separate incidents that police are investigating as arsons.

The business, Amir Family Hair Salon, is located in the 400 block of Sixth Street.

The first incident occurred on March 23, just before 7 a.m., when fire and police personnel were called to the location.

Investigators soon discovered an object was used to break a hole in the exterior glass of the business and a flammable substance was then thrown into the business, resulting in a piece of furniture catching fire.

Four days later, at approximately 1 a.m., police officers were called to the same location, where they soon discovered several outside windows broken and a flammable substance thrown inside, resulting in another fire.

"While both fires were quickly contained and relatively small, they have caused damage and disruption to the business," New Westminster Police Service Staff Sgt. Paul Hyland said in a press release. "The New Westminster Police Service is concerned not only about the damage and interruption to the business in question but for the overall safety of the occupants residing in the residential suites above the business, who have all been put at risk by the dangerous actions of the individual or individuals responsible for the fires."

Police are asking anybody who has any information in relation to these suspected arsons to contact Det.-Const. Smith of the major crime unit at 604-529-2533.

People who have information but wish to remain anonymous can also contact the police service's tip line at 604-529-2430 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
