The Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) Foundation hosted its sixth annual SHINE Gala Thursday and raised $280,000 for the hospital.

The Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) Foundation hosted its sixth annual SHINE Gala Thursday and raised $280,000 for the hospital.

Hosted at the Vancouver Convention Centre, more than 400 guests turned out for the event - including several patients and RCH staff members who were there to share their experiences at the hospital.

"It is amazing to see what we can accomplish together," said Adrienne Bakker, RCH Foundation president and CEO, in a press release. "I know we can rely on the staff at Royal Columbian to give of their best, and they know we can rely on you to support them."

Minister of Health Dr. Margaret McDiarmid also attended the event. A former patient herself, McDiarmid spoke to guests about the province's "commitment to the redevelopment of Royal Columbian Hospital, and prioritized the rebuild of the ailing Sherbrooke Building," which is home to patients of the mental health and substance use services.
