Two New West residents are facing multiple drug charges for allegedly trafficking in the city’s downtown core.
The investigation by New Westminster Police Department’s street crime unit came to a head on Feb. 11, when officers executed a search warrant at an apartment building in the 700 block of Carnarvon Street, according to a press release from the police department.
Christina Fotch, 41, is charged with three counts of unlawfully trafficking methamphetamine and one count of trafficking heroin.
Also charged is 55-year-old Michael Dionne, who is facing once count of unlawfully trafficking methamphetamine.
Police believe the accused were targeting areas downtown frequented by vulnerable people.
“Mr. Dionne and Ms. Fotch were allegedly trafficking in the downtown core of New Westminster, which is located near transition housing and a school for at-risk youth,” said acting Sgt. Jeff Scott, spokesperson for the police department, in the release. “Residents in these communities are trying to better their lives, which is why our street crime unit has devoted the time and energy to stop drug dealers from profiting in our city and taking advantage of vulnerable residents.”
The accused are scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, April 27.
