A crowning glory

The New Westminster Minor Hockey Association will be front and centre at both of the ice arenas in the Royal City in the upcoming season.

The New Westminster Minor Hockey Association will be front and centre at both of the ice arenas in the Royal City in the upcoming season.

The association helped put the finishing touch to emblazoning the familiar Royal City crown logo of the minor hockey organization into the ice at Moody Park Arena for the first time earlier this week.

In the past, recognition of the association was only made in a logo at Queen's Park Arena.

But with a special anniversary coming up in the 2012/13 season, the association wanted to do something special, said minor hockey president Ross Young.

With the help of logo committee members Doug Stokes and Bud Winstanley, "We got it done," said Young.

"The Salmonbellies are high profile. We wanted to increase our awareness in the community, so we did one (logo) at Moody Park and two at Queen's Park at centre ice for some community awareness and pride," said New Westminster association president Ross Young. "We're building association pride."

The new crown logo will be put into Queen's Park when the ice is laid in September.

Next year is the 75th anniversary for the New Westminster association, which was first established in 1937.
