The power of students is being highlighted in a new business event.
Burnaby Board of Trade is hosting Accessing Talent to Support Your Business, a webinar on April 29 to highlight the variety of innovative student talent programs available to support their business with short-term labour needs.
As businesses seek to adapt, grow, and thrive in a changing business landscape, bringing a student into the workplace can provide an infusion of innovation, increased cost-saving, and expanded capacity, all while contributing to a stronger community and future skilled workforce, the BBoT said in a news release.
In partnership with Douglas College, BCIT, SFU and Talent Forward, the webinar aims to equip attendees with information about the various programs being offered at local post-secondary schools, including co-ops, apprenticeships, practicums, and projects.
Attendees will hear about student talent success stories as Lower Mainland businesses who have benefited from using student talent will be featured. Participants will gain a clear understanding of how to recruit the right students for their organization as well as learn about funding incentives and subsidies offered for hiring student talent.
“As our economy recovers, local businesses can really benefit from the increased capacity, innovation, and energy that comes from bringing student talent into the workplace,” said Paul Holden, president and CEO of the BBoT. “Businesses can look to our post-secondary schools to access great talent that will help their business in the short term, but also lead to more skilled and consistent labour force in the long run.”

This free webinar is open to all businesses across the region and will be held on April 29, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is required.
