A group of Sapperton merchants is kicking off the holiday season with a family friendly event this weekend.
A small group of merchants, including Cadeaux Boutique, the Bloom Bloom Room, Mindful Mutts and Good To Go, have joined forces and planned a Christmas event that’s taking place on Sunday, Dec. 4 from noon to 5 p.m.
“They decided a community-wide festive street party would be just the thing to connect business and community together,” said a press release from the organizers. “A passport was created listing all the merchants participating, along with their free family fun contributions to the event.”
Folks can pop into the Bloom Bloom Room and make their own door swags, get pet photos done at Mindful Mutts, enjoy free hot apple cider at Cadeaux and photos with Santa at Good To Go, and sample treats at some local restaurants.
Kids can enjoy free ornament decorating at the City of New Westminster’s parklet, located in the 400 block of East Columbia Street. That’s where the Quayside Singers will sing carols from noon to 1 p.m. and Juno-nominated singer GinaLina will perform festive holiday music and sing-alongs from 2 to 4 p.m.
“The group thought it was important to have a community event that included the local Sapperton businesses to remind residents that there are some really great businesses on East Columbia Street, and that you don’t have to leave New Westminster to do your holiday shopping or run your errands,” said the press release. “Keeping it local was key to this first annual event.”
The passports are now available for shoppers to pick up at participating businesses or during the event. Shoppers can visit all the participating merchants and get a stamp; once it’s filled they can go to Cadeaux to collect a swag bag filled with goodies from the Sapperton businesses.
