Kinder Books is shining a spotlight on local writers as part of I Read Canadian Day.

The store, which opened in River Market in August 2020, carries a variety of books by Canadian writers, including many local writers and illustrators. In celebration of I Read Canadian Day on Feb. 17, Kinder Books is setting up a special book display from Feb. 13 to 17 that will feature titles by Canadian and local authors.

“We have invited local authors to record a reading either at their homes or at the store – when we are closed, not a public event, which we will feature on our website and social media,” said Anne Uebbing, owner of Kinder Books, in an email to the Record. “We will also be hosting a daily book giveaway (Feb 13 to 17) on Instagram.”

Uebbing is currently compiling a list of the “very local" authors carried at Kinder Books. They include 16-year-old Scott Mallinson from Burnaby, who is deaf blind and just published his first children's book, as well as a New West peace officer with the RCMP, and many more.
