The New Westminster Chamber of Commerce is postponing this year's annual Citizen of the Year and Bernie Legge Cultural Awards because there weren't enough nominations.
"This year the response to the call for nominations was less than anticipated, so over the next several months the chamber will be conducting an audit of all chamber events and activities," executive director Cori Lynn Germiquet said in a press release.
"It is important to note that the calibre of nominees was exceptional. The postponement is solely due to the limited number of nominations received. Our intention is to keep the submitted nominations active and incorporate the submissions into a revised awards event to be held in November."
The Citizen of the Year and the Bernie Legge Cultural Awards pay tribute to individuals who have been nominated for their contributions to the community. The Citizen of the Year Award recognizes an individual's volunteer and humanitarian work, and the Bernie Legge Cultural Award honours residents who have made a cultural contribution to the Royal City.
"The New Westminster Chamber of Commerce, like any other business, must facilitate core reviews of its operations to ensure that we are operating in a proficient manner and not only meeting the needs, but exceeding the needs of our members and community," Germiquet said in the release.
The chamber will award this year's winners on Nov. 28.
