Food truck events taking place biweekly near the Braid SkyTrain station are returning on the Father's Day weekend. A special event is taking place at NWSS on Canada Day.

New West residents will be able to celebrate two special occasions with take-out food from food trucks.

Drive-thru food truck events are planned in New Westminster on Father’s Day (Sunday, June 20) and Canada Day (Thursday, July 1).

“We have specifically planned for the Braid StrEAT Food Truck Drive-thru to fall on these dates so that it offers the community a way to celebrate them,” said Guy Ciprian of Savi Integrated Marketing. “Our first weekend back was on the Mother’s Day weekend, and it was extremely well received.”

The ongoing Braid StrEAT Food Truck Drive-Thru events are taking place at 97 Braid St. (next to the Braid SkyTrain station) bi-weekly on weekends through the summer. The events, including those taking place on June 19 and 20, run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Ciprian said organizers are also working with the City of New Westminster to host a special food truck event on Canada Day. That event, taking place on Thursday, July 1 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., will be held at the old New Westminster Secondary School site, at the corner of Eighth Street and 10th Avenue.

“We recognize that as the PHO (public health order) changes and other options become open to the public that a drive-thru event could become less appealing.  So, we are currently working with city staff to pivot and hopefully adapt to an in-person food truck event for the summer months,” Ciprian said. “I speak for everyone involved when I say that we are very grateful for the support that we have received from the City of New Westminster, Fraser Health, Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation, the community and Quad Real Property Group. I say this on behalf of all the food truck owners, their staff and the many young people who have benefited from working at the events.”
