Aritzia hiring 800+ employees for distribution centre in New Westminster

Aritzia is hosting a hiring fair at its Queensborough distribution centre with the hope of hiring more than 800 employees.

A "significant" employer in New West is getting set to hire more than 800 people for its New West distribution centre in preparation for the upcoming holiday season.

Aritzia is hosting a hiring fair at its distribution centre in Queensborough on Saturday, Oct. 22 and Sunday, Oct. 23 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The distribution centre is located at 415 Boyne St.

“The holiday season is fast approaching, and Aritzia couldn’t be more excited to welcome 800+ people to support with their busiest season,” said a notice about the fair. “They’re offering seasonal roles — with unlimited growth potential — in their distribution centre.”

According to Aritzia, the positions will support upcoming peak sales events and holiday shopping. Positions will pay $25 per hour, as a combination of both base and bonus pay (inclusive of seasonal incentives and recognition programs.)

“You’ll play a pivotal part in helping Aritzia deliver everyday luxury to clients near and far at their distribution centre — you could be picking, packing and sending out beautiful products across the globe,” said the notice.

Associates at the fashion company's distribution centre will take on tasks like receiving, sorting, stacking and transporting stock, as well as picking, packing and shipping stock to retail store and eCommerce customers.

Some of the job qualifications including have a commitment to quality results and a sense of urgency for executing job responsibilities, an ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently and to perform repetitive tasks and movements, an ability to stand and/or walk for up to eight hours a day wearing steel-toe shoes and an ability to meet attendance requirements.

The distribution centre offers a variety of shifts, including: mornings (6 a.m. to 2 p.m.); mid-shift (noon to 8 p.m.); afternoon shift (2 to 10 p.m.); and night shift (10 p.m. to 6 a.m.). Full-time availability of 32 to 40 hours a week is preferred, but part-time availability is a minimum of 24 hours per week. (This changes during peak sales events — Nov. 12 to Dec. 3 and Dec. 20 to Jan. 4 — when all distribution centre associates are required to increase their availability and work up to 40 hours per week.

Job “perks” vary by workplace but include a discount on products, opportunity for growth within the company, a transit subsidy and an in-house gym.

Blair Fryer, the City of New Westminster's manager of economic development and communications, said Aritzia opened its  warehouse in Queensborough in 2018.

"With over 200 employees regularly on site, it is a significant employer in New West," he said an email to the Record. "Other major employers include Kruger, Douglas College, RCH and TransLink."
