Onstage: Donna Thompson is Persis, the glamorous interior decorator who inadvertently starts a whole lot of trouble in the Vagabond Players' season opener, Let's Murder Marsha.

So what if your husband was planning your birthday surprise, but you thought he was trying to murder you?

That's the premise of the Vagabond Players' season opener, Let's Murder Marsha, which runs at the Bernie Legge Theatre in Queen's Park from Oct. 3 to 26.

The comedy-thriller, which spoofs the world of mystery novels, centres around happy housewife Marsha Gilmore, who's addicted to reading murder mysteries.

When she overhears her husband discussing her upcoming birthday surprise with an interior decorator, it sounds as if they are planning to murder her.

"Between a husband who doesn't approve of the books Marsha reads, a gorgeous interior decorator mistaken for a homicidal other woman and a sassy maid with a cop for a father, the fun is fast and furious," a media release says. "Throw in Marsha's mother and a nerdy neighbour who becomes Marsha's ally, and you have the ingredients for a comedy that will have audiences rolling in the aisles."

Julia Chayko and Miles Lavkulich take the roles of Marsha and Tobias Gilmore, and Donna Thompson appears as the glamorous Persis, who inadvertently starts all the trouble.

Marsha's mother is played by Joan Koebel, while Jordan Spanjers takes the role of Virgil, the nerdy neighbour who is drawn into the plot.

Rounding out the cast is Claire Temple as the maid, Bianca, and George Kopf as her policeman father.

Let's Murder Marsha is onstage Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $15, or $13 for seniors and students, with two-for-one previews on Oct. 3 and 4.
