The Royal City Literary Arts Society is looking for the best poetry in Canada.

The society has issued a call for entries for its sixth annual Fred Cogswell Award for Excellence in Poetry.

The award is presented each year for poetry books published in English in Canada. (Chapbooks and electronic books are not eligible, and translations are not accepted.) Books must be written by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and published in the calendar year 2018, and they must be a minimum of 60 pages in length.

Cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 will be presented to the top three winners.

There’s a reading fee of $25. Entries are now open and will be accepted until Oct. 1. A shortlist will be announced Oct. 15, with winners announced Nov. 1.

The judge for this year’s award is Fred Wah, an officer of the Order of Canada, a winner of the Governor General’s Literary Award for Poetry and a former Canadian Parliamentary Poet Laureate.
