Choral music fans in New Westminster are invited to enjoy peaceful spring evening this Saturday night.

The Amabilis Singers, a 65-voice community choir, is offering up Evening Peace on Saturday, April 29 at New Westminster Christian Reformed Church.

The choir, led by director Frank Lee and pianist Ingrid Verseveldt, will present a repertoire that ranges over time and through genres — from Brahms to contemporary classics.

“Hear how Stroope’s Amor de mi Alma and Barnum’s Afternoon on a Hill lend beautiful musical context to exquisite poetry, and how Lapatha & Dyck’s arrangement colours the traditional Irish melody of Bonny Portmore. Enjoy Barnwell’s Wanting Memories, made famous by Sweet Honey in the Rock, and There is a Light, by local musicians Acorn and Nickel, among other choral highlights,” a choir events notice says.

Amabilis was originally formed in 1980 as the Douglas College Community Choir, becoming an independent organization in 1989. Members come from all walks of life and run the gamut from students to retirees.

Tickets are $25 apiece, or free for children 12 and under. They’re available online via Eventbrite.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. at New West Christian Reformed Church, 8255 13th Ave., Burnaby.
