You won't find goats at the Queen's Park Petting Farm in June, but you will find art. The Arts Council of New Westminster is hosting an outdoor gallery at the farm June 24 through 27.

You may know it best as the home of the Queen’s Park petting farm – but, for four days this month, it’s taking on new life as an outdoor art gallery.

The Arts Council of New Westminster is hosting an outdoor Art Gallery in the Park event at the farm from Thursday, June 24 to Sunday, June 27.

The gallery will feature work by local artists and arts groups.

“This family-friendly, four-day event will welcome the community into the park to discover and explore a wide range of artistic styles and mediums,” says a social media post about the event. “From abstract paintings to photography and pottery to watercolours, this outdoor exhibition will celebrate art and culture in a beautiful park setting.”

It’s free, and COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place.

The exhibition will be open Thursday and Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The petting farm has not housed animals since 2019, with operations brought to a halt by the COVID-19 pandemic last year. The City of New Westminster is currently eyeing a new future for the farm space centred on sustainable food production. (You can find the details in an April 26 report to city council.)
