Seven top Canadian works are in the running for the fourth annual Fred Cogswell Award for Excellence in Poetry.
The Royal City Literary Arts Society has announced the shortlist for the 2017 award, which is open to Canadian writers with English-language books published in the past year.
Shortlisted for 2017 are:
- Carla Funk for Gloryland (Turnstone Press)
- Shirley Graham for Shakespearean Blues (Mother Tongue Publishing)
- Timothy Shay for The Dirty Knees of Prayer (Caitlin Press)
- Johanna Skibsrud for The Description of the World (Wolsak and Wynn)
- Eva Tihanyi for The Largeness of Rescue (Inanna Publications)
- Margo Wheaton for The Unlit Path Behind the House (McGill-Queen’s University Press)
- Jan Zwicky for The Long Walk (University of Regina Press).
First-, second- and third-place winners receive cash prizes, and winners will be announced on Nov. 1.
