Their hair may be silver, but their talent is golden.

Local seniors strutted their stuff on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Sapperton Pensioners' Hall.

The Sapperton Pensioners Association and New Westminster Lions Club produced the Seniors Have Talent! show, which featured 14 acts who had won their way to the finals through an earlier audition.

Coming out on top was Sue Sparlin of New Westminster, who won the $200 first prize for her comedic takeoff on Memory, from Cats, and also sang Till There Was You. She shared her prize with pianist David Hamilton.

In second place was Dan Minor of Surrey, who won $100 and shared his prize with pianist Alice McAuley. He sang Old Man River, and then tap danced and sang his way through Smile.

In third place was Sapperton's own Bryan Pickering on guitar.

The Audience Choice award went to 88-year-old Elvis impersonator Chuck Johnston.

Judges were Dolores Kirkwood, Lions past district governor Tom Tait and Chief Const. Dave Jones of the New Westminster Police Department, with a little help from Port Moody police Chief Const. Chris Rattenbury.

"Performers are asking that this event be available for next year, and we want to accommodate them," said show coordinator Vic Leach in an email. "It was fun for contestants and great entertainment value for all patrons."
