Quayside Voices hosts 'dinner and a show' in New West

The a cappella quintet is inviting everyone to grab some food from their favourite local eatery and enjoy a livestreamed concert on Aug. 22

Quayside Voices is returning for another livestreamed Quayside in the House concert on Saturday, Aug. 22.

The Quayside Voices quintet is still singing its way through the pandemic.

The New Westminster vocal group is holding its second Quayside in the House concert on Saturday, Aug. 22.

The singers will be performing from 100 Braid Street Studios and livestreaming to the world in a 5 p.m. show.

Thanks to recently acquired technology including in-ear monitors and microphones, they’re able to maintain the tight harmonies needed for a cappella singing while still remaining physically distanced from each other – and, at the same time, producing clear sound for their online audience.

The concert follows an earlier edition of Quayside in the House on July 5, and it’s coming about thanks to a New Westminster Responsive Neighbourhood Grant from the Vancouver Foundation and Family Services of Greater Vancouver.

For this show, the singers are hoping they can help local eateries by promoting their concert as “dinner and a show.” They’re hoping audience members will bring in some food from their favourite local restaurants and eat while being entertained by the quintet, and they’re encouraging folks to use the #QuaysideParty hashtag to share photos of their events on social media – while also tagging the restaurant in question.

“This grant is trying to find unique ways to celebrate the community of our city while keeping safe, and we can’t think of a better way,” wrote Quayside’s Stephanie Lam in an email.

“Doors” will open at 4:45 p.m., and the concert is free. Check out www.quaysidevoices.com or see Quayside Voices on Facebook.
