The gallery is featuring work by Sheila Page until Feb. 27, in an exhibition titled The Beach Beneath Our Feet.

The Vancouver-raised Page developed a lifelong connection with the forest and the sea thanks to childhood experiences in Howe Sound in the 1950s.

“In this series of paintings I would like to draw attention to the importance and complexity of the natural world beneath our feet,” she says in a press release. “The humble natural objects on the beach have been shaped by waves and weather into arrangements that reflect the power of their environment.”

Page’s acrylic work is on larger canvases, which, she says, has “has enabled me to compose and paint with increasing freedom and vigour.”

The Plaskett Gallery is at Massey Theatre, 735 Eighth Ave. See www.masseytheatre.com or call 604-517-5900 for more information.
