Shelby Cunliffe, Rachel Jansen, Lauren Trotzuk and Taylor Winters-Sproule are featured in Footloose the Musical, starting Oct. 13. The production opens Stage 43 Theatrical Society's 40th anniversary season.

A New Westminster resident is kicking off her Sunday shoes and cutting loose for the next Stage 43 outing.

Shelby Cunliffe is onstage with the Coquitlam-based theatre company for its season-opening production, Footloose.

The New Westminster performer appears as Wendy-Jo in the musical, which opens the company’s 40th anniversary season. It’s onstage at the Evergreen Cultural Centre Oct. 13 to 16 and Oct. 19 to 22.

The show will be familiar to many fans of the hit 1984 movie. It follows the story of teenager Ren McCormack and his mother, Ethel, who move from Chicago to a small farming down. There, Ren finds himself facing down the town establishment over a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher — and, along the way, Ren finds romance with the preacher’s rebellious daughter, Ariel.

It features Nikola Trotzuk as Ren and Kimberly Hornaday as Ariel, with Jesse Redmond as Rev. Shaw Moore, Angela Bell as Vi Moore and Kara McLachlan as Ethel McCormack. The large cast also features Lauren Trotzuk, Billy Hornaday, Ben Meadows, Taylor Winters-Sproule, Christina A. Neale, Harold Perdomo, Emily Makudi, Shampa Sristi, Danielle Yu, Jennifer Mamchur, Riley Langford, Josh Bourassa, Lorene Stuart, Kaden Burgart, Erin Lai, Tiffany Chan, Rachel Jansen, Cecilia Federizon and Faith Johannessan.

Shows run Thursday, Oct. 13 through Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Sunday matinee Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. The run continues Wednesday, Oct. 19 through Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $28 for adults, $24 for seniors/students, available online or by calling 604-927-6555. There’s special two-for-one pricing on single adult-priced tickets on Wednesday, Oct. 19 (use discount code DANCE).

Evergreen Cultural Centre is at 1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam, next to the Lafarge Lake-Douglas SkyTrain station.
