A New Westminster singer is featured in an upcoming concert at Place des Arts.

Soprano Lambroula Pappas is featured in the arts centre’s final faculty concert of the season on Saturday, April 6 at 7 p.m.

The concert, Bernstein, Beach and Beyond: A Tribute to American Classical Music, features songs by such renowned composers as Lee Hoiby, Amy Beach, Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copeland and more.

Pappas, accompanied by pianist Matthew Ma, will perform a variety of arias and song cycles by American composers - expect to hear such tunes as Summertime from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, Ain’t it a Pretty Night from Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah, Bernstein’s I Hate Music and Hoiby’s The Serpent.

“This concert will offer up music people will truly enjoy and that they don’t get to hear often,” Pappas said in a press release. “Matthew is an extraordinary pianist, and our repertoire is truly gorgeous. We’ll present some fun music, some more serious songs, and there will even be a little puppetry involved.”

Pappas is particularly excited to perform Try Me Good King, a song cycle by Libby Larsen that recounts the fate of the wives of King Henry VIII: annulled, beheaded, died, annulled, beheaded, survived.

“The best part is that everything is in English, so no translation required,” Pappas said.

Pappas is a mother of two young children and a vocal teacher whose students have received many awards, trophies and festival honours. As a soloist, she has sung with symphony orchestras and opera companies across Canada and internationally.

Tickets for her Place des Arts concert are $21 regular, $16 for students, available through www.brownpapertickets.com.

Place des Arts is at 1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam.
