A New Westminster resident is at the helm for the return of Avenue Q.

The irreverent, definitely-not-for-children puppet musical is returning to the stage after two hit runs on the Granville Island stage in 2013 and 2014 and a successful B.C. tour in 2014.

The Arts Club Theatre Company is presenting Avenue Q from Nov. 17 to Dec. 31.

The show follows the naïve Princeton (Andrew MacDonald-Smith), a college grad who arrives in New York City looking for love, a job and his purpose in life. He can only afford to live in the multicultural Avenue Q, where humans coexist with scandalous Sesame-Street-esque puppets.

Bill Millerd, artistic managing director, says Avenue Q is one of the most popular shows the Arts Club has presented at the Granville Island stage.

"With its inventive combination of acerbic wit and hilarious storytelling, seven actors play 12 characters, including some very naughty puppets," he said.

Local resident Peter Jorgensen directs.

“On a pretentious level, Avenue Q is about examining the fine, fine line between reality and fantasy as we struggle to find ourselves as adults,” Jorgensen said in a press release. “But on a more base level it’s about puppets having sex in every way we could imagine.”
