A virtual artist talk and panel discussion is shining a spotlight on the digital economy and the redistribution of wealth.
The New Westminster New Media Gallery is hosting A Conversation on Interactive Art, Human Rights, the Digital Economy and the Fair Redistribution of Wealth this weekend. It’s set for Saturday, Oct. 17 at 10 a.m.
The talk will be focused on the work of the Brussels-based Larbits Sisters, whose work is part of the Currency exhibition that’s now on at the gallery. A short artist talk will be followed by a conversation with Cissie Fu, dean of the faculty of culture and community at Emily Carr University, and Ami Iaria, associate general counsel at the B.C. Securities Commission.
The panel will discuss the award-winning, interactive installation Bitsoil POPup Tax and Hack Campaign, a work that proposes a fair redistribution of wealth through a technology-driven campaign of Twitter-bots.
“The panel will discuss the digital economy (Blockchain, cryptocurrency and data) in a virtualized social fabric, political and societal issues related to immigration, the refugee crisis and the right to have rights,” a press release says.
