Musical theatre lovers, take note: If you happen to be in Ontario this spring and summer, you may want to check out some local talent onstage at the Stratford Festival.

New Westminster’s own Sayer Roberts is back with the festival for his second season.

Last year, Roberts was in the ensemble for the festival’s two major musicals, Guys and Dolls and HMS Pinafore. This year he’s featured as Brad in The Rocky Horror Show and as part of the quartet in The Music Man.

Roberts – who is, as readers may know, the son of the well-known local performing pair of Colleen Winton and Russell Roberts – has been a familiar face to local audiences.

He’s appeared with Royal City Musical Theatre, as Barnaby in Hello Dolly in 2012 and Curly in Oklahoma! In 2013, and with Gateway Theatre, as Rolf in The Sound of Music in 2011. He’s also been on stage with the Arts Club, in its 2015 performances of Les Misérables and Red Rock Diner, and with Patrick Street Productions in Out of a Dream.

All of which led us here at the Record to name him our One to Watch on the arts scene in 2015 – and now he’s proving us right.

Kudos, Sayer – we’ll continue to watch your career with interest.

The Music Man runs at Stratford from April 17 to Nov. 3, and The Rocky Horror Show runs April 27 to Oct. 31. See www.stratfordfestival.ca for all the details.
