Some new programs are starting up soon, and registration is now open. Check out the following options:

 

VIRTUAL REALITY PUPPET THEATRE

This course, for ages nine to 13, gives kids a chance to create a virtual reality puppet theatre, using both cutting-edge digital media tools and traditional hand tools. Participants will learn how virtual reality technology works and work on puppets, scenarios and scripts with educator-artist-musician Flick Harrison. Students need to bring their own iPod or phone.

It runs four Wednesdays, May 8 to May 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and costs $80.

 

CREATING ELECTRONIC MUSIC AND SOUND DESIGN

This program, led by educator-artist-musician Kiran Bhumber, covers synthesis and processing, envelopes and glissandi, additive and subtractive synthesis, noise generators, filters and control signals. By the end of the sessions, students will present their own electronic music works to the class. Students need to bring a laptop with a trial version of MAX MSP installed. It’s for ages 16 and up.

It runs two Saturdays, May 11 and May 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The course costs $45.

 

FIELD RECORDINGS

This course for adults (aged 18 and up) will introduce participants to recording sounds in urban and natural environments. The workshop is designed to set students up for ongoing sound workshops in the year to come. Students are required to bring their own field recorder (microphones and laptops are optional).

It’s on Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and it costs $30.
