The Shadows and Dreams Theatre Company returns to Queen’s Park this weekend for the first of five stagings of Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale.
Started by two New Westminster families, the production company has been putting on free Shakespeare-in-the-park productions for 11 years. This year, the group is doing The Winter’s Tale, starting this Sunday at the Queen’s Park band shell.
“When his childhood friend, King Polixines, pays too much attention to the Queen, King Leontes' jealousy sets in motion the tragic beginnings of this fairy tale. A lost princess, a rebellious prince, foolish shepherds and a sly pickpocket all help to unravel the curse on the kingdom. Join us for some magic and free family-friendly fun at the Queen's Park bandshell,” notes a press release.
The shows run rain or shine and are free. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and a picnic and make an afternoon of it. The play runs Sunday, July 23; Saturday and Sunday, July 29 and 30; and Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 5 and 6. Curtain’s at 2 p.m.
