You may remember him best as a “Kid in the Hall” – and now Bruce McCulloch is bringing his newest show to New West.

The Canadian comedian-writer-director is bringing his Young Drunk Punk show to Lafflines Comedy Club on Saturday, Oct. 1.

The new show, as a press release tells it, chronicles McCulloch’s journey from his early days as a “young punk” in 1980s Alberta, to his flannel plaid days in 1990s Toronto to becoming a dad living in the Hollywood Hills.

“From scowling teenager to father of two, this evening of comedy, peppered with moments of surprising poignancy, proves that although this infamous Kid may be all grown up, his singular brand of humour and signature wit remain firmly intact,” the release says.

Tickets are $29.95. Doors open at 6 p.m., and show starts at 7 p.m.

Lafflines is at the Columbia Theatre, 530 Columbia St. See www.thecolumbia.net/lafflines.

LEARN ABOUT IMPROV

Improv, anyone? Here’s a fun one I just spotted on the River Market website, so I thought I’d pass it along.

A new four-week course, Fundamentals of Improv 1, is starting up on Sunday, Oct. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the community square (upstairs at River Market).

A write-up about the course notes it’s designed to introduce and practise storytelling, characterization, commitment and structure: “great for the beginner and marvellous exercise for the intermediate and advanced improviser.”

It costs $200 per month. Email [email protected] to find out more or sign up.
